Fire Retardant Additive
![]()
The '1000' series of products are a more environmentally aware fire retardant additive.
These powders are a ceramic material with a significant proportion of recycled material. The product reduces smoke and heat and gives material strength to the char.
The material works by melting at low temperature and flowing around the burning resin. This results in encapsulating the char thus reducing the access of oxygen to the burn site and gives it material strength. The combined glass and char remain intact at high temperatures. The material strength of the mass retains the integrity of the original.
There are two products currently available:
- 1006 in general use
- 1007B which is less alkaline
The powders can be used with other flame retardant products to lower the temperature at which they become effective.
Particle size can be reduced for use in paints and extruded material, i.e. cables. The product emits no toxic gases in a fire, but some water vapour may be produced. The powders contain no detectable Bromine, Cadmium or mercury and less than 0.02% chromium and lead.
